Indiana Wesleyan University held their annual Student Government Association elections for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
IWU SGA is a group of elected student leaders that work alongside IWU to promote a better experience for IWU students. The organization communicates with students and helps cultivate unity among campus.
Makayla Williams, the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, was re-elected for a second year.
“The process of re-election was different this year, as I was running unopposed, meaning students could choose to abstain from me running for a second year, but they didn’t,” Williams said. “I’m excited to be carrying on this role for a second year.”
Kara Simison, Director of Communications was elected for her first year as a member of SGA.
Simison underwent a series of debates prior to the election in hopes of being elected for this position.
“During these debates, I was asked many questions about what I would do if elected for this position.”
Simison said she wants to implement more consistent digital marketing content while in her position.
“My expertise and knowledge about social media marketing will help me with this role as I am up to date with current trends and short videos,” Simison said. “Promoting our events through SGA social media pages will help communicate towards students in a positive light.”
Alongside Simison, Grace Huizingh was elected as the president of SGA for the 2024-2025 school year. Huizingh said she is the Director of Academic Affairs for the 2023-2024 school year and is preparing the transition to her new role the upcoming school year.
“I am extremely happy with the results from this election and look forward to working with everyone on the team next year,” Huizingh said.
Huzingh said she hopes to further lines of communication among departments to work towards a more integrated university.
“I want IWU to know that SGA seeks to be the voice of the students and represent all students well,” Huizinga said. “We would love to hear what is on students’ minds so we can best advocate for them, so please don’t hesitate to talk to me or my team.”
